Cierra, Jayden, and Parker were waiting for Scott to get home on September 12th when they received the call that he had been in a mountain biking accident. Upon reaching the site of the accident, Cierra learned that Scott had sustained a spinal cord injury and was paralyzed. He was first airlifted to Portneuf Medical Center and later to the University of Utah when medical personnel determined that surgery might be needed, as Portneuf’s OR was temporarily inoperable. He was intubated for the flight and underwent surgery early the next morning to relieve pressure on the spinal cord and fuse the spine. From there, Scott made great progress and experienced miracles in regaining feeling and function in his limbs; he was even cleared to move to rehab before taking a sharp turn early in the morning on September 25th. An infection arose and quickly became septic, leading to a list of other complications, and he passed away early that afternoon in the ICU. Scott graduated in May with his doctorate in Physical Therapy. He was beginning a new phase of life with "his girls," wife Cierra and daughters Jayden and Parker. Scott lived and loved big. He was the most caring dad and always the favorite among all the kids. He wanted everyone to feel welcome, important, and loved. He was adventurous, determined, and always learning. His loss is enormous, and the new normal for his family is difficult and uncharted. Their world has been turned upside down, yet the goodness of the people surrounding and supporting them has been undeniable. Thank you for supporting Scott's girls during this tough time.
